Joint German-Chinese Pilot Farm in Ganhe Officially Opened

Since October 2008 the consortium DLG-Agriservice/AFC Consultants International has been coordinating the project "Joint German-Chinese Pilot Farm in Ganhe". This Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project comprises a volume of 1,2 Mio EUR for technical assistance as well as 1 Mio EUR for equipment. The partners are the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, German manufactures of agricultural machinery as well as the Ganhe State Farm.

The German Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. Gerd Müller and his Chinese colleague, the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Niu Dun, officially opened this demonstration farm in Harbin on July 23, 2009. During the opening ceremony a film about the Project was shown. This film, in Chinese language and with German subtitles, can be downloaded here.

The political officials and the project partners emphasized the broad consensus of the German-Chinese cooperation which has been very effective so far and which is a basis to continue the present Project successfully.

The aim of the Project is to improve the agricultural production by the use of German agricultural machinery and production methods with highest standards. In order to achieve this objective the Chinese partners provide 1,000 ha of land and all inputs for crop production. The agricultural equipment such as harvesting machines, tractors, sprayers, etc. is supplied free of charge by private German companies (CLAAS, LEMKEN, GRIMME and RAUCH).

Apart from the provision of the equipment, the German project manager, Horst Bunge, gives advice and trainings to the Chinese workers and managers on the Ganhe farm. These trainings focus on the sustainable use of soil and water resources as well as on the reduction of fertilizer and plant protection. Up to now summer-wheat, soy beans and potatoes have been grown with the use of German machines.
