Laboratory Systems Specialist - (international, 4 person-months):

Description :

The impact of the Project will be increased agricultural growth, through development of more efficient livestock and horticulture agribusinesses. This outcome will be achieved with the following outputs: improved agricultural marketing infrastructure with investment in slaughterhouses, small-scale horticulture market facilities, laboratories to certify products, and improved standards for horticultural products and product-management systems.

The Project will be implemented over the period to December 2013, which is the Project completion date

Qualifications/Experience:

The Laboratory Systems Specialist will
  • Review existing laboratory systems with the Institute and with support from the laboratory management and equipment specialist and national specialist reach agreement on the design and implementation of improved laboratory management systems and practices in line with laboratory accreditation.
  • R eview of the equipment list and laboratory building requirements and, with the Raisin Institute, and with support from the procurement specialist prepare tender for the equipment. The proposed equipment needs (for Mazar and Kabul (1 key piece of equipment required) to assist the laboratories of the Raisin & Other Dried Fruit/Fresh Fruit Institute of MOCI in Kabul, Kandahar, and Mazar to become fully operational and to gain accreditation.
  • A ssess technical training needs
  • Assist in preparing the framework and action plan for the laboratory accreditation, and support implementation, and on site training
  • Assist each of the labs in promoting their services and in making the agribusiness enterprises and associations aware of the significance of a certified product in international marketing
  • Develop with the Institute efficient cost recovery systems for the product testing and certifying services to ensure the financial sustainability of the laboratory testing and certification
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the national consultant on establishing inventory systems, and on installation of the equipment in the laboratories.
  • Prepare laboratory systems manuals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology and/ Laboratory Management.
  • Five years experience in managing a food technology/testing laboratory that tests food quality for all types of contamination
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in establishing and improving laboratory management systems, and in implementing laboratory certification systems for accreditation, particularly in relation to dried fruit and nuts. Previous work experience in Afghanistan preferred
