Laboratory Technician - (international, 7 person-months)

Description :

The impact of the Project will be increased agricultural growth, through development of more efficient livestock and horticulture agribusinesses. This outcome will be achieved with the following outputs: improved agricultural marketing infrastructure with investment in slaughterhouses, small-scale horticulture market facilities, laboratories to certify products, and improved standards for horticultural products and product-management systems.

Start/ Duration :

The Project will be implemented over the period to December 2013, which is the Project completion date

Qualifications/Experience:

The Laboratory Technician will:
  • A ssess the training needs of the laboratory technical staff in the Raisin Institutes in the various regional centres;
  • prepare practical training plan, with assistance from the laboratory systems specialist, and establish monitoring framework and benchmarks.
  • implement in-country training program, and if available identify providers; and identify relevant regional training programs for the technical staff to attend so that they reach a sufficient level of proficiency in the sampling, and the various laboratory techniques so that laboratory tests are accurate, reliable, and certifiable;
  • provide on the job training to technical staff;
  • assist other team members in provision of awareness raising/ training to agribusiness enterprises and associations involved in dried fruit and nut production and export;
  • prepare laboratory technical procedures manuals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology and/or Food Science
  • Five years experience in managing a regional food technology laboratory that tests food quality for all types of contamination
  • Thorough knowledge and significant experience in using various types of equipment to make the appropriate tests of contamination of, most importantly, dried fruit and nuts
  • Previous work experience in Afghanistan preferred.
