Description
:
|
The impact of the Project will be increased agricultural growth, through development of more efficient livestock and horticulture agribusinesses. This outcome will be achieved with the following outputs: improved agricultural marketing infrastructure with investment in slaughterhouses, small-scale horticulture market facilities, laboratories to certify products, and improved standards for horticultural products and product-management systems.

Qualifications/Experience:
|
Food Safety Grades and Standards Specialist will:
-
Assist the Quality Control Department of MAIL, the Food Safety Steering Committee, and the Afghanistan National Standards Authority in establishing and institutionalizing practical grades and standards of commodities in the Project's priority value chains.

Assist MAIL in developing appropriate SPS rules and regulations (including laboratory testing, inspection, laws) for targeted commodities under the Project.

Assist MAIL in developing standards for exportable commodities in those value chains that meet the standards that are described in the CODEX Alimentarius.

Develop value-chain training/ extension materials that include a description of the commodity grades and standards and how these grades and standards should be used to improve the efficiency and marketing of value-added agricultural products.

Provide training to the national Food Safety/Trade Policy Specialist on the role of commodity grades and standards in the WTO accession process.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology or Food Science
-
At least five years experience in developing and implementing commodity grades and standards in developing countries
-
Experience in establishing SPS rules and regulations in the Government
-
Knowledge of CODEX Alimentarius food quality standards and WTO accession procedures
-
Previous work experience in Afghanistan preferred
